DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, May 18\, join us at Hop & Barrel Brewing Company\, LLC in Downtown Hudson for a fundraising event for "Lucette! A lively Tale of Lumberjacks\, Trees & Paul Bunyan\," a new musical created right here in Hudson by award-winning author Marybeth Lorbiecki and Hudson High School composer Owen Paul Olson. \n\n\n\nThere will be performances of some of the songs from the musical\, a silent auction and of course\, beer. You'll have to try Hop and Barrel's newly released Paul and Babe's Breakfast Ale. \n\n\n\nThe event will cost $15 at the door and include a beer. Cash or check only. \n\n\n\nDonations will also be accepted through GoFundMe at gofund.me/b3bc73a1\n\n\n\nNew Musical Seeking Program Participants \n\n\n\nThe crew behind the new musical is looking for participants in the first ever staging of "Lucette!\n\nA Lively Tale of Lumberjacks\, Trees & Paul Bunyan\," which will hit the stage in its full glory in\n\nAugust. Students from the Valley are encouraged to register for the summer 2023 stage-testing\n\nworkshop\, July 5 through Aug. 5. It will be hosted at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and\n\ndirected by UW-River Falls Stage Arts Professor Kathy Welch.\n\n\n\nThis is a unique theater workshop. Young adults will have the opportunity to contribute their\n\ntalents and creative insights to the development of a new musical as they practice to perform it\n\nfor the first time on stage. If you are interested in participating\, click here to sign up. \n\n\n\nPublic performances will be held the evenings of Aug. 3 and 4\, with a matinee on Aug. 5\n\nA matching arts grant from the St. Croix Valley Foundation will help to commission the\n\ncompletion of the ten remaining songs and sponsor the month-long stage-testing camp at the\n\nuniversity.\n\n\n\nAbout the Musical\n\n"Lucette! A Lively Tale of Lumberjacks\, Trees & Paul Bunyan\," is based on Lorbiecki's original\n\npicture book "Paul Bunyan's Sweetheart\," illustrated by Wisconsin artist Renee Graef.\n\n\n\nAll is not well in the forests where Paul Bunyan and his lumberjacks are cutting trees. Lucette\,\n\nalso a tall tale figure\, must flee along with her animal friends. When Paul\, with Babe the Blue\n\nOx\, and the lumberjacks come to Lucette's new home\, she and her enormous cow\, Nel\, are\n\ndetermined to teach them a lesson. Trouble is\, Paul's fallen in love. Humorous calamities pile up. Will Lucette win the day to save the trees and animals?
