General Description/Summary:
The Friends of Willow River and Kinnickinnic State Parks, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to enhance the parks’ natural environment and engage visitors through recreation, education, and conservation. We are searching for a resourceful, energetic, and dedicated individual to serve as our part-time development coordinator. The development coordinator is responsible for raising awareness of the impact our organization has on the parks and all of those who utilize and cherish them. This individual will develop relationships with key individuals and organizations who can assist with this endeavor, and will raise funds to support programming and fund the capital campaign to build a new nature center.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Development Coordinator:
➢ Demonstrate a self-motivated work ethic coupled with responsiveness to supervision.
➢ Develop and promote awareness-building and fundraising through various events, on
site as well as in the broader community, and via various media platforms.
➢ Utilize networking and research to establish relationships between the Friends
organization and key individuals and constituencies while maintaining existing
relationships.
➢ Help the Friends develop fundraising goals and work to meet these goals.
➢ Assist in writing grant proposals and developing gift opportunities.
➢ Coordinate fundraising events and activities from start to finish.
➢ Identify and solicit new donors among individuals, foundations, and corporations.
➢ Adhere to gift guidelines as established by the board.
➢ Recruit, coordinate, and support volunteers to assist in a very broad range of activities.
➢ Maintain detailed records of activity on behalf of the Friends and submit timely reports
to the Board of Directors.

Education/Experience
A strong candidate for this position will possess a bachelor’s degree or higher in a field related to natural resources, education, marketing, or business finance. Experience demonstrating applicable skills working within those fields is desired.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
➢ Possess interpersonal skills that support successful interaction with the general public,
and potential donors. Prior experience working with individuals from a wide range of
backgrounds, and in various settings is highly preferred.
➢ Provide evidence of the ability to:
○ Develop and disseminate written materials including–but not limited to–
handouts, posters, press releases, and donor letters.
○ Utilize social media platforms for marketing outreach.
➢ Demonstrate excellent judgment and decision-making skills that yield funding for the
Friends.
➢ Show the ability to negotiate with donors and persuade individuals, foundations, and
corporations to provide support for a specific purpose. Evidence of prior productive
grant writing experience is preferred.
➢ Demonstrate creativity in generating fundraising opportunities and successfully
executing productive events.

Work Environment:
The development coordinator’s work environment is quite diverse. During the phases of contacting potential donors and planning a fundraiser, you will work in an office setting at Willow River State Park. Since many fundraising events take place outdoors, you will spend some time working outside in various weather conditions. You must also be available to work some evenings and weekends.

Hours:
This part-time position will require approximately 20 hours per week on average. The distribution of these hours will vary depending on time of year and type of activity.

Compensation:
Hourly wage negotiable based upon qualifications and experience.
