Summer Fun for the Whole Family

Summer Fun for the Whole Family

Seasons come and go, but quality family time is here to stay. That’s why we’re loving the new Fam Camp trend. This year, it’s all about making it a priority to take a class, explore new territory, and spend time learning something new together as a family. It puts the focus back on family relationships and the importance of making fun memories together that will last a lifetime.

According to Airbnb, family travel is at an all-time high and “real-life experiences have rebounded past the pre-pandemic levels.” That means when it comes to classes, camping, etc., people are craving unique and memorable experiences with a focus on nature, food/cooking classes, camping and more. Whether you’re looking for camps for kids or an experience that you can do with the whole family, we’ve put together a great mix of both.

Family Day on the Farm
Located just outside of Hudson, Eagle Eye Farm is the perfect place to spend the day with the family. This special and unique place is home to the sweetest pack of alpacas, llamas, pigs, Baby Doll sheep, miniature Shetland ponies and more. And trust us when we say it’s great for all ages, young and old!

Want to spend even more quality time with the animals? Now you can, as they’ve just launched a variety of camps for all ages and interests. Check out their week-long Summer Farm Camp, where each camper spends time with all of the animals, with special attention to the alpacas. Campers will learn about and actively participate in chores, animal care, animal handling/training and animal health. They also offer a variety of fun-filled, educational day camps, where you can even learn how to halter and walk an alpaca. What an awesome way to spend the summer!

On top of their camp offerings, they also have amazing tours, where you’ll also be able to get up close and personal with many of them–think alpaca selfies. Make sure and book ahead for your tour, as they can get pretty busy and only offer a limited number per day. They also do birthday parties and private tours, where you can spend even more one-on-one time with your favorite animals. If you fall in love with the farm and the animals–like most people do–you might want to go back for some alpaca yoga!

Sail Away Together
Think fun in the sun all summer long. If you’re a family that loves the water and boats and would enjoy learning more about sailing–this is for you! Located right in Hudson along the St. Croix River, just outside the gate to the marina, is the Saint Croix Sailing School (SCSS).

The school was started in 2008 by a group of long-time St. Croix River sailors who wanted to share their love of sailing with local youth. Focused on children and teens from ages 6 through high school, SCSS was founded on the premise that sailing is unique in the developmental opportunities it offers young people. In addition to sheer fun and the opportunity to develop lifelong boat handling and racing skills, sailing builds character through its time-honored emphasis on self-reliance, teamwork and sportsmanship.

They offer several classes for beginners or intermediate sailors, along with Keelboat certifications and Club 420 sessions. They also offer adult and family sessions, so the whole family can get in on the fun. Registration starts in the spring, so make sure to plan ahead as spots fill up quickly.

Enriching Experiences
The Phipps Center for the Arts is truly a gem in downtown Hudson. Not only do they put on performances for family audiences, but they also offer an array of courses that encompass visual arts, performing arts and lifestyle classes. Classes and lessons are held at their facility on the beautiful St. Croix River. Phipps classes can help you unleash your inner artist, free your mind and explore new talents. It’s a great way for kids to expand their minds and find inspiration through art. They offer several classes that the whole family can enjoy together, like ceramics. All levels are always welcome!

On top of amazing art classes, there are also a variety of dance classes, like jazz, hip-hop,  ballroom and Latin dance. And if you have a serious dancer in the family, make sure to check out their year-long dance program. There’s truly something for everyone at the Phipps Center!

Summer Days at the YMCA
From summer sports, to day and overnight camps, the Hudson YMCA is the place to be this summer. The flexibility and variety are perfect for busy families that just need a break from the day-to-day. For kids that love nature, make sure to check out Day Camp DayCroix! Both new and returning campers thrive during a week packed full of exciting, structured activities where they’ll learn new skills and build self-esteem. While the kiddos are enjoying their time at the YMCA, it’s a great time for busy parents to take a little break and grab lunch, do a little shopping and just enjoy some time in beautiful Hudson.

Looking for something the whole family can enjoy together? Make sure and check out Family Camp. Families can get away and bond through a unique experience that focuses on spiritual growth and environmental awareness. There are also several Northern Minnesota and Boundary Water area camps, like Camp Du Nord and Camp Northern Lights. Here you’ll canoe, camp, hike, and surround yourself with the beauty of this breathtaking area.

Whether it’s bonfires, tents, and stargazing, or pottery wheels and farm animals, you just can’t go wrong spending quality time while learning something new this summer. And don’t forget to schedule a weekend of even more fun with the family, where you can explore all the parks, shopping, restaurants, boat tours and more. There are plenty of great hotels (with pools for the kids) and Airbnb options in Hudson, so plan your Hudson weekend today!
