Executive Director- St. Croix Valley Food Bank

St. Croix Valley Food Bank (SCVFB) is a community-initiated response to the growing need for food in western Wisconsin.  Incorporated in 2021, the SCVFB has grown to partner with 60 hunger relief programs in Burnett, Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix counties. As a Feeding America Affiliate Food Bank, the SCVFB is on track to distribute approximately 6 million pounds of food in 2024.  The SCVFB is embarking on a large capital project to build a permanent food bank building to expand operations and serve the growing hunger need in the region. 
 
Position objectives:  The Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, planning, and management of all operations and resources of SCVFB, in accordance with the strategic direction, mission, vision, and policies set by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director ensures the progress and development of the organization’s programs and the management of all staff members. The Executive Director sustains strong and supportive relationships with donors, hunger relief partners, public elected officials, and human service agencies. The Executive Director is the lead for fundraising. This position is responsible for all the financial transactions necessary to meet the operative needs of the organization.
 
Responsibilities
Leader

  • Provide a strategic vision and direction for the organization, leading the development and implementation of long-term strategies to meet needs and objectives of all stakeholders
  • Maintain a collaborative and accountable relationship with the Board of Directors.  Create a system for sharing information that enables the board to effectively carry out its governance role
  • Partner with the Board of Directors to source and select new board members that reflect the diversity of the communities, partners, and clients served
  • Attract, develop, motivate, and retain members of the staff, guiding them to achieve short and long-term organizational objectives
  • Develop appropriate annual and long-term financial objectives, controls, and risk management strategies to protect organizational assets
  • Possess a keen understanding of the budget, revenue, and expenses, as well as the bottlenecks that face the organization. Develop and implement systems to run the business efficiently and responsibly
  • Oversee the development of new programs and evaluate existing programs to determine efficiencies, inadequacies, and sustainability
  • Seek private, state, and federal partnership opportunities to advance the mission
  • Serve as the primary contact for contractual relationships
  • Ensure contracted partners fulfill contractual obligations and propose changes to contractual relationships when needed
 
Communicator/Relationship Builder
  • Serve as the chief spokesperson for the organization, communicating SCVFB’s purpose, vision, and mission
  • Attend community events representing SCVFB
  • Engage volunteers to achieve the organization’s goals
  • Ensure relationships with customers, donors, volunteers, and the community-at-large are handled in a manner consistent with organizational values, mission, and strategic objectives
  • Build relationships with constituent and stakeholder groups critical to the success of the mission
  • Oversee the communications function and staff ensuring the SCVFB brand is consistent across all communication channels and materials.
 
Fundraising
  • Create and execute a robust fundraising plan to sustain and expand the work of SCVFB
  • Meet with donors, build fundraising relationships, and ask for major gifts from key prospects
  • Maintain current relationships with grant funders. Source new grant opportunities, foster relationships, complete grant applications, manage awards and required reporting. 
  • Engage the board in fundraising responsibilities

 
 Qualifications:
  • Position is required to be on-site daily at the Hudson, Wisconsin location
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Preference given to qualified candidates residing in the SCVFB’s service area (Burnett, Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix County)
  • Preference given to candidates with previous food bank/pantry experience and issues related to hunger relief and leadership in non-profit organizations, food industry management, or business administration and fund raising
  • Knowledge of human service systems, public relations, and marketing, fundraising for charitable causes, organizational planning, and human resource management.
